FACTOn 5 October, the US military said it had attacked a boat in the Caribbean Sea the previous day on suspicion of drug smuggling, killing four people. Southern Command did not publicly provide evidence that the vessel was carrying drugs. The administration treats the campaign as an armed conflict with cartels.
